The subject line of the email sent out Friday by Hoosier Region Officials Chair Terry Sweasy was “We lost a Great Man today.”

We certainly did as Greg was a friend, an unselfish giver of his time and a wonderful person to represent our organization. He was a USA Volleyball National Official receiving that certification in 2002 but he was better known for his love of the sport and his love of officiating it at any level and wherever he was needed.

The text of Terry’s email is below as well as information on Greg’s arrangements and services to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday in New Haven, Indiana:

“It’s with a heavy heart that I have to tell you we lost Greg Roth today. Greg was not only an official in the Hoosier Region but a great friend to me and most officials that have been doing this for the last 20 years.

Greg loved the sport of Volleyball and worked tirelessly at training and helping young Volleyball Officials better their skills. I could count on him to run the officials clinics and help me in registering those officials in Northern Indiana. Not only did he work helping me he also was instrumental in developing officials for High School and College.

I will send out a note of the arrangements once they are completed.

As you lay your head down tonight take a moment to say a prayer for Greg and his Family….

I love you Greg and you will be missed but never forgotten….”
